60,000 tonnes/year of organic waste becomes biogas and biomethane at Agripower’s biomass plant
Thanks to the treatment of 60,000 t/y of organic waste, the Agripower SpA plant (formerly Biofor) is able to produce over 9 million m3 of biogas and about 5.5 million m3 of biomethane per year. Waste from separate collection and those from industrial companies, as well as sewage from nearby farms delivered through special underground pipes (without the use of wheeled vehicles), are collected in the digesters for the production of biogas, destined in parallel to both the cogeneration section and the upgrading plant. The electricity produced is partly self-consumed and partly sold, while the thermal energy is completely used in the plant for the various services. The digestate is recovered in agricultural processes as a natural soil improver, while the biomethane produced replaces fossil methane in the distribution network.
