Biogas from organic waste: the San Luis Obispo project

The city of San Luis Obispo in California has a biogas plant powered by the community's organic waste. The plant, which was designed, built and managed by Hitachi, was funded by the California Energy Commission CEC EPIC Grant and CalRecycle for a total of 8 million dollars, and produces renewable electricity that is distributed in the network. Despite numerous procedures to obtain the required permits, the plant is now in operation and will produce 100% gas by the end of 2018.
