Biogenic CO₂ for Europe’s climate neutrality
Associations
By 2040, the EU will need to capture around 340 million tonnes of biogenic CO₂ to achieve climate neutrality. CO₂ recovered from biogas and biomethane production could cover up to 25% of this demand and be used in the chemical sector, mineralisation processes, or traditional markets such as food and beverages and greenhouses. However, there is still no real recognition of its “green” value compared to fossil CO₂. Policies, incentives and certification schemes are needed to unlock its full potential.
