Biomethane in Greece: Biomass Potential Toward 2030
Market and policy
Greece’s National Energy and Climate Plan aims to produce 2.1 TWh of biomethane by 2030. To exceed this target, investors must carefully plan their units, knowing the sources and composition of raw materials. The country has a minimum potential of 17 million tonnes of biomass, including livestock straw, whey, and the organic fraction of urban solid waste. This material could generate around 7 TWh of energy if used efficiently. The key will be turning these resources into well-positioned operational plants, maximizing biomethane production.
