Biomethane in Poland: a potential still to be unlocked
Market and policy
Poland ranks among the top five European countries for biomethane development potential, thanks to its strong agricultural production, agri-food industry, and energy-intensive industries. However, this potential remains largely untapped. According to EBA, accelerating growth requires a clear national strategy, defined targets, and a biomethane trading system, including cross-border exchange. Integration with the agricultural sector is also key — both for feedstock access and digestate reuse. Best practices already implemented in other EU countries could serve as a model for Poland.
