Bizkaia, Basque Country: a new bio-waste biomethane plant coming soon
Market and policy
Waste management in Bizkaia, a province of the autonomous community of the Basque Country, in northern Spain, is extremely advanced and Garbiker, the company responsible for the management of municipal waste generated in that area, has a clear strategy to achieve the European and Basque targets by 2030. Over the next few years, a plant for the production of biomethane from organic waste will come into operation. The plant will operate with 50,000 tons of wet waste and will be located in the area adjacent to the current composting plant. Thanks to this approach, renewable energy equivalent to the consumption of about 6000 homes per year will be generated.
