Brand of excellence in the beverage industry aims at energy savings and sustainability using cogeneration: the Martini & Rossi case
Case history
Founded in 1863 in Turin, today Martini & Rossi is one of the most popular brands of alcoholic beverages in the world. With approximately 160 million bottles produced in a year and an activity distributed over three shifts, the company has always paid close attention to energy consumption, with an eye on sustainability. This is precisely why in 2000 a first cogenerator was already installed, later supported by a biogas plant fed by wastewater produced by the facility. The plant was later decommissioned, as a result of changes in the chemical composition of the wastewater, and replaced with a new and more powerful cogeneration plant (1200 kW). The current natural gas cogeneration plant makes it possible to exploit the self-produced electricity on production and bottling machinery, the steam for distillation, fermentation and disinfection of the equipment and hot water for washing, bottling and heating.
