Brazil: The plan to boost biomethane
Market and policy
Heloisa Borges, Director of the Department of Oil, Gas and Biofuels Studies at EPE – the Energy Research Office, explains that developing biomethane in Brazil requires an integrated infrastructure and efficient logistics between producers and consumers. The National Integrated Gas and Biomethane Infrastructure Plan was created to connect networks and plan investments through 2050. The main challenges are scalability and cost. EPE works to link producers with financing and promotes the use of biomethane from urban waste to fuel buses and reduce emissions, creating new local economic models.
