California: bioenergy to reach 100% renewable energy in 2045
Market and policy
In the state of California two main regulations are in place that govern cogeneration, renewable energy policies and climate-related policies. In particular, California has set the goal of producing 60% of its electricity from renewables by 2030 and 100% by 2045, along with a reduction in emissions. To achieve this, what is needed is not only renewable sources, but also sources that are flexible and always available such as bioenergy, including biogas from waste. The potential of biogas in California is in fact so enormous that it is able to cover 15-18% of the state’s electricity needs.
