Canada, fertile terrain for cogeneration
Market and policy
In Canada, the existence of the “global adjustment rate” - an often expensive tax on electricity supply - is incentivizing self-production by means of cogeneration. The huge amounts of natural gas in the country are also a great opportunity for hospitals and companies aiming to be more efficient and wanting to save on electricity costs. A new frontier in the gas industry is LNG - liquefied natural gas - with a demand of 10 billion cubic feet predicted by 2020.
