Cogeneration in Mexico between the spot market and energy efficiency certificates
Market and policy
A major change introduced by the Mexican energy reform is the spot market, which has deregulated the market, switching from a monopoly to competition, guaranteeing lower energy prices. Energy efficiency certificates for renewable sources have also been introduced by the reform. Cogeneration, considered as a “clean” energy, can benefit from these securities as it contributes to achieving the energy efficiency objectives established for 2024 and 2050.
