Cogeneration up until 2030: more power to consumers, 20% more electricity production and 25% more heat
Market and policy
In Europe, 11% of electricity and 15% of thermal energy are produced through cogeneration. According to research carried out for the CODE2 project, however, the economic and technical potential is 20% for electricity and 25% for heat until 2030. As the Managing Director of COGEN Europe makes clear, achieving these targets will nonetheless require economic, political and legislative certainty; for this reason the European Union has issued the Clean Energy Package, a document that makes commitments in the energy and environmental fields.
