Gas Networks Ireland leads the growth of biomethane in Ireland
Market and policy
Gas Networks Ireland is strongly committed to developing the biomethane sector in Ireland. It is working on grid connection policies, awareness campaigns, and collaboration with authorities to define rules on guarantees of origin and connection costs. One of the key technical priorities is "reverse grid compression", which allows gas to flow from rural areas into the main transmission network. The long-term goal is to achieve 100% renewable gas by 2045, through a combination of biomethane and hydrogen.
