In Gazzo Veronese, biogas becomes biomethane: ribbon cutting for Chiesone Srl’s plant
In Gazzo Veronese, Verona, a new biomethane production plant has been inaugurated, marking a significant step forward in agricultural circular economy. The facility, originally a biogas plant built in 2012 by Chiesone Srl to produce electricity, has now been converted to biomethane production. It uses livestock manure from cattle, pigs, poultry litter, and second-harvest crops, processing up to 35,750 tons of organic by-products per year and generating 250 Sm³/h of biomethane — over 2.1 million Sm³ annually — enough to supply around 1,500 households or 1,000 cars driving 82 km per day. The upgrade has extended the plant’s operational life by 15 years, reduced CO₂ emissions, and ensured that about 30,400 tons/year of digestate return to the soil as fertilizer, benefitting the environment and the local territory.
