Metlen, at the Intersection of Energy and Low-Impact Aluminium
Metlen is a global industrial group active in both the metals and energy sectors, holding 20% of the electricity market in Greece and a strong presence in the gas sector across Southeast Europe. The company produces primary aluminium from local bauxite, a highly energy-intensive process that accounts for 6% of the national electricity consumption. At the heart of its strategy is the cogeneration plant, operational since 2008, which covers the refinery’s thermal needs and delivers over 16% primary energy savings. This not only reduces costs but also makes its aluminium production among the least carbon-intensive in the world. For Metlen, efficient energy and competitive prices are key to keeping the European aluminium industry alive and sustainable.
