Non-Ferrous Metals in Europe: Stable Energy and Cogeneration as a Key
Industry and tertiary sector
Eurometaux represents the European non-ferrous metals industry, from aluminium to lithium, covering the entire value chain from mining to recycling. The sector is crucial for the energy transition, digital development, and defense, but it is highly electricity-intensive. To remain competitive, it needs decarbonized, stable, and globally competitive electricity—this is where cogeneration comes in, producing both electricity and heat simultaneously with higher efficiency. The association also advocates for policies compensating indirect costs from the ETS, essential to protect companies from “carbon leakage.” Without affordable, secure, and smart energy, the sector’s transition risks slowing down.
