Project Finance: how it works and what to know when financing a biomethane project
Applications and technologies
Project finance is a long-term financing method for capital-intensive projects, such as energy production or anaerobic digestion (AD) projects, where the loan is secured by the asset itself. The due diligence process includes legal, technical, tax, and insurance reviews, along with the assessment of the financial model. The project is managed through an SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) that holds all assets and contracts. In the Irish biomethane context, it's crucial to consider local legal aspects such as environmental permits, gas network connections, feedstock supply, and gas offtake agreements. We explore these topics in this interview with A&L Goodbody.
