Romania: cogeneration sector undergoing transformation and recovery
Market and policy
In Romania, cogeneration is undergoing transformation: old coal systems have been replaced with natural gas technologies and surviving post-1989 infrastructure is currently being modernised. Efforts are primarily focused on urban cogeneration for heat and power, while industrial cogeneration, once widespread, is recovering. The government is investing €1.6 billion from the modernisation fund to renovate production units and pipelines. Mihai David, President of Cogen Romania, talks about all this and the prospects for the sector.
