Spain: with a potential of 163 GWh and new regulations for the connection of plants, biomethane is seeing growth
Market and policy
According to a study by Sedigas, the Spanish gas association, the potential for biomethane production is 163 GWh, equivalent to about half of the methane consumption in Spain. During the “Día del Biometano” event, we spoke with Pedro Palencia from Sedigas, who reminded us of the implementation of the Regulation for the connection of biomethane plants to the grid and the recent opening of the public consultation for the revision of circular 8 concerning the requirements for the connection and access of biomethane plants and plants for the production of other renewable gases to the grid.
