In this interview, we put the spotlight on the “State Resilience Planning” efforts launched in the State of Maryland in the USA. The “Resilient Maryland Program”, launched in 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, generates funds for the creation and implementation of distributed energy production systems such as microgrids, energy storage systems and cogeneration plants. The program puts the focus on four specific areas: microgrids for university campuses, resilient energy infrastructure, as well as cogeneration plants capable of operating in “island” mode and resilient hubs. During the course of 2020 a total of 14 beneficiaries were able to take advantage of the funds and the State of Maryland has decided to launch a second call which will close in 2021.
