The role of cogeneration in the decarbonisation of the construction and industrial sectors
Industry and tertiary sector
Cogeneration plays a key role in the decarbonisation of the construction sector, particularly for buildings characterised by critical energy needs such as hospitals, which cannot rely solely on the electricity grid. CHP is also more efficient than the traditional grid and significantly reduces CO2 emissions. New market segments, such as data centres and industrial sites with additional energy needs, can benefit from cogeneration. In these cases, it is possible to install cogeneration plants locally, also using carbon capture and storage technologies, with advantages regarding energy reliability and sustainability.
