Agribioenergia: the Italian agricultural cooperative that uses 1000 Kwh of thermal energy produced from biogas to dry medicinal plants
Agriculture and breeding
Agribioenergia is an agricultural cooperative founded in 2005 by a group of young farmers from the Medicina municipality in Bologna, with the aim to create sustainable energy. To this end, in 2010 a biogas plant was installed, 75% of which is powered with agro-industrial by-products of animal and vegetable origin and 25% with dedicated biomass. The heat energy produced by the cogenerator (over 1000 Kwh) is used to dry the medical plants which the company sells in pharmacies and health food stores. Moreover, the digestate obtained from the drying process is used as a soil fertiliser, improving the quality of the cultivation fields. Thanks to this approach, the plant becomes part of a virtuous circle: the one of the "Biogasdoneright".
