Alimerka, a popular Spanish supermarket chain, has been on a path to reduce its emissions for years. Firstly, the company has invested in greener logistics with the adoption of electric and LNG vehicles, which has allowed it to reduce emissions by 55% in this area. Alimerka has also installed solar panels on the roofs of numerous supermarkets, reducing the carbon footprint of the entire company by 80%. Finally, the company is considering the possibility of producing biogas and therefore biomethane from the food waste generated by its supermarkets.
