Biogas and social acceptance: the successful case of Renahav in Sweden
The European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and Environment (FEDARENE) is a network of public agencies supporting energy transition across European regions. Sabine Täuber, Project Leader at FEDARENE, explains that key concerns among communities regarding biogas projects include odours, traffic, and landscape impact. However, modern technologies can eliminate odours, and transparent dialogue with communities helps to overcome resistance. A positive example is the Renahav biogas plant in Sotenäs, Sweden, which was established to address wastewater issues in the local seafood processing industry, fostering economic and employment growth without causing inconvenience to residents. This demonstrates how such projects can create sustainable and efficient networks.
