Biomass cogeneration for Finland’s leading energy company
District heating and cooling
Oulu Energia is one of the leading energy groups in Northern Finland, operating in fuel production, electricity and district heating generation, sales, and distribution. The company aims for carbon neutrality by 2050 by modernizing its facilities for biomass use. By the end of 2024, it will phase out peat, its last fossil fuel source, and electrify district heating with electric boilers and heat recovery. To achieve this goal, cogeneration remains a key technology, with the latest plant commissioned in 2020 and future integration with the hydrogen economy. The company has therefore converted all installed CHP plants to run on biogas produced from biomass.
