The role of gas in Poland’s decarbonisation process
District heating and cooling
Poland boasts one of the largest district heating systems in Europe, which produces 70% heat generated by coal power plants. Considering that the Energy Efficiency Directive provides for an efficiency of all European district heating networks, the use of cogeneration plants – powered by methane gas and then biogas – in Polish district heating systems is a winning choice.
