Biomethane from the grid to refuelling stations: the Flogas Enterprise case
Applications and technologies
Flogas Enterprise has been supplying biomethane to the Irish gas network since 2020, in particular serving industries such as food, beverage and pharmaceuticals, which require heat at high temperatures and cannot fully electrify their processes. According to the company, bio-CNG is also a promising solution for the decarbonisation of the transport sector, in particular for heavy commercial vehicles that contribute a significant part of emissions. As Eoin Brennan points out, European and Irish regulations that encourage the use of renewable gases and fuels are critical, along with industrial policies that ensure companies can decarbonise without losing competitiveness due to higher costs.
