Cartiera di Cologno: recovering the value of used paper
Case history
The Masotina family has been producing paper reels for the manufacturing of corrugated cardboard boxes since 1987. The raw material used comes exclusively from paper and card collected for recyclingor the production waste from companies around Milan. The paper mill’s production process requires enormous amounts of energy, and so, in 2014, it was decided to install a 2,681 kWe cogeneration plant, which reduced costs, enabled the steam to be used in the plant and the heat to be used for preheating the water used in the production cycle, as well as reducing pollution, thanks to the gas treatment system.
