CHP in critical infrastructure: hospitals
Industry and tertiary sector
The second video on critical infrastructure looks at hospitals. During the COVID-19 pandemic we heard a lot about hospitals and many of them were able to guarantee their operation at 100% thanks to cogeneration. Despite this, the potential is still very high because, according to a survey conducted by the DOE in 2016, a total of 6,240 hospitals in the USA possessed the required characteristics to install cogeneration plants. Cogeneration offers many benefits and the Texas Medical Centre in Houston understood this quite well. They installed a 48 MW plant on their campus and did not experience any power outages during Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
