CHP in the Northwestern United States and Alaska
Market and policy
According to David Van Holde, Director of the Northwest CHP Technical Assistance Partnership, cogeneration is a valid solution to decarbonise the Northwest states in the USA (states located in the northwestern part of the country, namely Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, etc.). Most of the region's CHP plants are powered by renewable gases (such as biogas) to produce low-carbon energy. It is different for Alaska, where natural gas-powered CHP is also widespread, as it is of primary importance to produce energy efficiently and resiliently.
