Cogeneration and electrification: a winning match to reduce the risks of decarbonization
Energy efficiency and cogeneration
Gearoid Foley argues that in cities with a harsh winter climate, such as New York for example, the production of energy using cogeneration plants is the optimal solution to support the electricity grid that for most of the year exceeds energy demand. This means that the electrified energy system is decarbonized by 90% and for the remaining 10%, cogeneration reduces the risks of blackouts.
