Cogeneration for Data Centers and Greenhouses: the New NY–NJ Onsite Energy TAP Study
Energy efficiency and cogeneration
The New York–New Jersey Onsite Energy TAP, a U.S. Department of Energy program providing free technical support for on-site energy technologies, recently published a study on how cogeneration (CHP) can improve the efficiency and reliability of high-tech data centers and greenhouses. The study analyzes the electricity and thermal demands of both sectors and suggests how to optimally balance heat and electricity to reduce costs. Among the main challenges, it highlights the need to develop a collaborative business model between data centers and controlled-environment agriculture.
