Cogeneration plays a key role in Italy, with around 10–20 GW of installed capacity, and is essential for both industry and energy efficiency. The sector has a strong supply chain that needs to be protected. The Italcogen association promotes cogeneration as a sustainable solution and supports the implementation of European directives, focusing on the use of decarbonized fuels such as biogas, biomethane, and hydrogen. Looking ahead, ensuring the availability of these fuels is crucial to fully harness the potential of cogeneration.
