COP30: biomethane, biogas and promises turning into action
In this interview, Charlotte Morton, Chief Executive of the World Biogas Association and ADBA, shares her reflections on COP30, held in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 22 November 2025. The message is clear: methane remains firmly at the centre of the global climate agenda. The number of countries ready to adopt dedicated methane action plans is growing, with the biogas sector expected to play a strategic role. Recycling all the organic waste produced every year could, on its own, deliver up to half of the Global Methane Pledge. Among the most significant announcements is the commitment by Brazil, Italy, Japan and India to quadruple sustainable fuels by 2035, a pledge that opens up new opportunities for biomethane. The challenge now is to turn commitments into concrete action, through effective policies and clear regulatory frameworks.
