Digestate as a key element to mitigate contaminants in Scottish agricultural soil
Anaerobic digestion
Digestate, a key component of bioresources, emerges as a crucial tool for mitigating contaminants in agricultural soil. The contaminants include microplastics and PFAS, in other words very strong perfluoroalkyl substances, resistant to major natural degradation processes. In Scotland, the government has a testing programme underway that allows farmers to monitor soil carbon levels and regenerative farming practices are implemented, with digestate recognised as key to having healthy and sustainable farmland. Here is our interview on the subject with Fidra, which collaborates with governments, industries and communities to raise awareness and take action on environmental sustainability.
