Energy self-sufficiency for pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly
Case history
As early as the 1990s, Eli Lilly Italy perceived the potential of cogeneration applied to the pharmaceutical industry; after a few evalutations, in 2012 the company installed a 2.7 MWe system that allows it to be almost entirely self-sufficient with regard to electricity and thermal energy production. The economic savings are clearly visible (-6 cents euro on the cost of power) and the reduction in emissions is ensured. Steam recovery, on the other hand, is thanks to the Siat boiler connected to the system.
