Gas Networks Ireland: the Irish Gas Network ready for biomethane
Market and policy
For the development of biomethane in Ireland, a key role is played by Gas Networks Ireland (GNI), the entity responsible for gas infrastructure in the country. GNI has over 700,000 potential customers for the biomethane industry. However, market development is necessary to meet demand and GNI contributes by covering 70% of the grid connection costs for potential producers. The agency is actively working to implement the new National Biomethane Strategy and support the industry in addressing current challenges.
