How CCS (Carbon Capture & Sequestration) can make cogeneration greener
Technologies and components
We asked Matt Lensink to explain how the carbon capture and sequestration process (CCS) works and why it adds value to cogeneration if combined with the latter. In some countries, the benefits are considerable also thanks to the presence of incentives. For example, Canada, where the “carbon tax” provides for a reduction in taxes if a CCS system is used combined with a cogeneration plant, while if the CO2 is used for other applications, it becomes a source of income. Carbon sequestration is also encouraged in the USA with the “tax credit”, which provides for a compensation of $85 per tonne.
