In Germany, the Bio-Energie Bad Windsheim biogas plant contributes to the thermal needs of the Franken-Therme wellness spa
Case history
In Germany, in the heart of Bavaria, a biogas plant uses thermal energy it produces in an innovative and sustainable way. We are talking about the Bio-Energie biogas plant in Bad Windsheim. The plant contributes for almost a third of the thermal needs of the nearby Franken-Therme wellness spa. The plant, managed by eight partners, is completely flexible and adapts to thermal and electrical demand, starting operation only at set times. Moreover, thanks to a thermal accumulator, it is able to guarantee a continuous supply of thermal energy to the spa, which can thus heat 2500 cubic metres of pools used by approximately 450,000 guests per year, at temperatures ranging from 32 °C to 36 °C.
