Indian Oil: biogas is essential for agriculture and energy independence in India
Market and policy
Indian Oil is the leading energy company in India and provides 52% of the country’s fossil fuel needs. Indian Oil has committed to achieving net zero emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2046, including biogas as a key part of this commitment. Biogas could, in fact, represent a breakthrough in the enhancement of agricultural waste, which is currently burned, and improving the income of farmers, who make up 50% of the population. In addition, it could help the country reduce its dependence on natural gas imports, which today amount to 55%.
