Intergrow Greenhouses: the US greenhouse which has chosen "island mode" CHP to make growing tomatoes more efficient
Case history
Intergrow Greenhouses has been producing various varieties of tomatoes for the American market since 1998. The company has always been environmentally conscious and can be considered a company with a 100% virtuous cycle. The greenhouse is in fact equipped with a rainwater collection system that is used for irrigation; moreover, an island mode 2.4 MW cogeneration plant has been installed. The heat produced by the plant, which works seasonally, is used to heat the greenhouse, the electricity powers the lamps that together with the CO2 guarantee a steady plant growth. The big advantage for the company is to be able to achieve a higher crop yield, thereby appropriately responding to the growing market demand.
