Italy: Charge exemption for Biogas plants – ARERA resolution 109/21
Market and policy
ARERA Resolution 109/21 allows operators to exclude network charges for the electricity used to power the auxiliary services of biogas plants, providing significant economic savings.
The resolution updates the way these savings can be obtained: those who have never benefited must follow a new procedure to activate it, while those who already benefited must adapt to the new operational rules.
A key point is that the “negative” electricity – the energy used internally by the plant – must be managed by a trader, who ensures the proper exemption of charges.
CIB Service has developed dedicated support to assist companies in adapting to the new regulations.
