Life Chandelier: biomethane from the countryside
Applications and technologies
Life Chandelier is a European project launched in 2024 to produce sustainable biomethane in rural areas, involving a strategic consortium of companies and technology centers specialized in bioenergy and agri-food waste management. Genia Bioenergy plays a central role as the coordinating partner, managing the testing and implementation of technologies at the Valderrobres plant in Spain. Here, underexplored feedstocks such as olive mill waste and straw are tested, and the biogas produced is purified through modular membranes and converted into biomethane. The biomethane is then compressed and tested as fuel for bio-CNG trucks. The goal is to show that rural areas can produce clean, sustainable energy in addition to food.
