Low-risk energy efficiency and high CO₂ savings for the Granarolo Group
The Granarolo Group, one of the largest players in the dairy sector in Italy, has 13 production sites in the national territory and 9 abroad. Given its high energy consumption, the Company has been investing in cogeneration for several years, first directly and then entrusting its assets to the E.ON ESCo. At the Usmate Velate production site (in Milan), one of the Group’s largest, two cogenerators are installed, of 2 MW and 3.3 MW respectively, which guarantee 97% of the Company’s energy needs. The electricity produced is distributed throughout the facility, hot water is used for heating the various environments and steam makes it possible to heat the water used for pasteurization and CIP washing processes. For Granarolo, the choice of adopting cogeneration has been a winner on several fronts: more competitive energy prices, zero risk concerning the lack of energy savings thanks to the intervention of the E.ON ESCo and greater efficiency of production processes with about 1,000 tons of CO₂ saved each year.
