Natural gas cogeneration can reduce CO2 emissions in the USA
Market and policy
If the marginal emissions of conventional coal-fired plants range from 1,000 to 1,800 pounds of CO2 per MWh, cogeneration plants average 400 to 600 pounds of CO2 per MWh, which is why they can be considered to be more efficient and less polluting. Clearly this figure can be lowered even more if the plants are fuelled with biomass or hydrogen.
