Price volatility and spark spread: how do they affect cogeneration in Europe?
Market and policy
Price volatility and spark spread primarily affect small systems installed at universities, hospitals and schools where energy production is not the core business and it is therefore important to have stable prices. A possible solution to reduce the risk of price instability in this sector is relying on Energy Service Companies (ESCo) which take on both the investment and the risk.
