RECITAL: the French project to optimize the cultivation of CIVEs
In France, the term CIVE (Energy-Producing Intermediate Crops) refers to intermediate crops intended for energy use, which are integrated between two main crops. These crops are considered a resource of great interest, as they are also involved in the production of biogas. However, given the diversity of its climatic contexts, in France technical recommendations relating to their cultivation must be managed and adopted at the regional level. To this end, the RECITAL project was launched, collecting information from dozens of farmers to help them choose crop systems suitable for the production of CIVEs, taking into account the specific climate context and their activities. The project, completed in 2023, was supported by ADEME and provided recommendations for five regions: Grand Ouest, Centre Ile de France, Sud-Ouest, Rhône-Alpes and Grand Est.
