The European energy scenario: recognising the value of cogeneration in EU Directives
Market and policy
Hans Korteweg retraces the various European provisions adopted in the energy field between 2021 and 2022. Since the release of the Fit for 55 Package in July 2021, progress has been made despite the emergencies that have emerged (the war in Ukraine resulting in rising gas and electricity prices) and the REPower EU plan has also been introduced. COGEN Europe is working to ensure that high-efficiency cogeneration is rightly recognised within the Energy Efficiency Directive. Equally important are the Renewable Energy Directive and the Electrical Market Design, which the Association oversees as the contribution that cogeneration can make to energy safety and efficiency is also recognised and regulated.
