The potential of olive pomace for biomethane production in Spain
Applications and technologies
Olive pomace in Spain represents a huge resource for biomethane production: by using only half of this waste generated during olive processing, it would be possible to build over 100 plants, each capable of producing 80–100 GWh of biogas per year. Exera Energía has developed pre-treatment strategies to improve the availability of this organic matter as well as its methane potential. Among these strategies, the use of patented additives increases the fluidity of the pomace and optimizes methane production, making this waste a valuable input for anaerobic digestion plants.
