Towards 2050: District heating takes center stage
Associations
The EU’s Directive 2023/1791 brings district heating into the spotlight, turning it into a real driver of the energy transition. The goal is clear: public and private buildings will have to rely on increasingly efficient systems based on cogeneration, waste heat recovery, and renewable sources. By 2050, the share of recovered heat will steadily rise until it becomes, together with renewables, the only source allowed. This isn’t just a “green” move, it means lower consumption, more savings, and a more competitive industry. In short, greater efficiency for everyone and a far more sustainable energy future.
